What has been a highlight to your summer?

The highlight has definitely been spending time teaching kids to swim. I started teaching private lessons in high school, and this summer I have been able to watch a lot of the kids I’ve been teaching for years make huge improvements. It’s the kind of job you forget you get paid to do.

Have you been working? What is your job/what do you do?

I work in the accounting department of Gilster-Mary Lee in Chester Monday through Wednesday, and I teach private swim lessons to kids on Thursdays.

Did you go to any concerts/festivals?

I’ve been in St. Louis for most of my weekends exploring different things to do in the city. My favorite thing to do there is go to cardinals games. So far, I’ve been to around 6 this summer.

Do you have a best word to describe your summer?

Exciting. I’ve been busy this summer with work and online classes, but I feel like I always have something great to look forward to on the weekends. I’m always excited for what’s coming next.

Did you go on vacation? Where to/what did you do?

I’m going to Florida with my family next week for a little time at the beach and a few days in Orlando. We are going to definitely be nerding out at the Harry Potter attractions in Universal Studios.

What did you learn over the summer?

I learned how to work with people who think differently than me. The people I work with are very set in the older ways things have been done and don’t incorporate much technology. For example, when I go to work, I have my own typewriter. I talked to them a lot about small changes that won’t overwhelm them, but that will improve their business practices. They’ve let me change a few small things.

What are you most excited about for 1st semester?

I’m most looking forward to seeing my friends who live far away in places like Chicago. Being from Southern Illinois is wonderful, and I wouldn’t change that for the world. I do miss the people I haven’t been able to see much, though. I can’t wait for everyone to be in the same town again!
