What has been a highlight to your summer?
I would say my highlight would be going to my friends lake house for a weekend. It was me and all my high school friends and it was a lot of fun to get together after college. We went up to Wisconsin, we went boating and tubing and it was just like a blast to be able to hangout with them after being abroad and all of us being away at school!
Have you been working?
I am marketing intern at New Hope Star that started in 2008 and has grow a ton. Essentially they provide services to home builders and train agents to sell new homes. They specialize new homes for builders. I love it they have a great culture, everyone is nice, and I’ve been able to do a lot of projects that have impacted the company. It’s really valuable sophomore year to get an internship in a smaller company. Its interesting to work in a mid sized company to see business operations at a corporation level. It’s cool to see how a small business operates .I’ve learned a lot about cool resources they use and software systems, even that Business Council could use, it’s been super valuable. You really see the impact and change you’re making for the company. This has been an awesome experience as well.
Did you go to any concerts/festivals?
I went to Spring Awakening for a day. I went with some friends from high school. I’ve been before, I went last year. It’s fun cuz I like edm music. I was most excited to see Porter Robinson. I’m excited to go to Lollapalooza too and see Odezsa, I literally love them.
Did you meet up with any BC friends over the summer? What did you do?
Ya I’ve hung out with people a lot, it’s been cool to see them. It’s good to see people after going abroad and to be able to compare experiences with those that have also gone abroad in the past. But I’ve been able to see a lot of my friends again and just hangout with them and reconnect. I’ve gone to Top Golf with a bunch of BC guys. Michelotti, Katie, and I got ice cream the other day. I also just went to Greek Reunion and got to see a lot of my BC friends again which was great and so much fun!
Did you do anything educational over summer?
I’m taking econ 203, it’s nice to relax but taking a class for me helps to get back into the swing of things, definitely after being abroad. It’s also nice to knock out some credits while I have free time. It’s very manageable to do and balance with my summer life.
Do you have a best word to describe your summer?
Reconnecting, It’s been a lot about reconnecting because I kept in touch with people abroad but it’s hard to keep up with people. You just see what’s going on but what the time change you aren’t talking at optimal times. I’ve taking as much time to reconnect with my family and see friends that are starting work soon. I think it’s important to keep in touch with people and keep that connection.
What are you most excited about for 1st semester?
I’d say Recruitment is something I always look forward to. Fall recruitment is especially fun and can do a lot more outside. I’m just excited to be back on campus. Being away abroad was amazing but I have been really missing Champaign lately. Going back for Greek Reunion was great being able to see people and I can’t wait to be back on campus and getting very excited for Recruitment!
